What have we learnt Part Three

What We Have Learnt Over The Past 3 Weeks?

We have learnt that panic attacks at 3 am are just that, not heart attacks.

We have learnt that the gentlest creatures are called nurses and they work in hospitals

We have learnt that the sharp things sticking into your back in the middle of the night are the cat’s feet!

We have learnt that...

Betty has arrived

Yep Betty has arrived. She is still sitting in her box looking ever so pretty and shy. I haven't the heart at the moment to un-box her, but one day soon I will introduce her to the rest of the kitchen appliances.

As Him Indoors is on pureed food at the moment, and pureed fresh bread doesn't sound to appetising I think I will leave her...

What have we learnt Part Two

We have learnt to send out multiple text messages to friends and family

We have learnt that Intensive Care nurses are angels in disguise

We have learnt that eating crackers and cheese at 9.30 pm gives you weird dreams

We have learnt that tubes and other medical paraphernalia are not scary just interesting

We have learnt that a nice fine day...

What have we learnt?

What have we learnt over the past month?

We have learnt to say the word cancer out loud and not flinch when we do

We have learnt that friends are just that

We have learnt that it’s ok to say you want to run away from all of this scary stuff

We have learnt that perfect strangers make good companions when sitting in waiting rooms

We have...

Plucky Ducks

We came home Wednesday to see a strange cat flying out of the cat door. Inside there were feathers everywhere and our cat perched on the back of the sofa saying ‘it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me’.

A partly plucked Waxeye was irately bouncing up and down on the windowsill trying to get out. Once again I am totally amazed at just how resilient...

Waiting Rooms

I have been sitting in a lot of waiting rooms over the past few weeks, private waiting rooms, specialists’ waiting rooms and public hospital waiting rooms and have noticed the magazines that are there for visitors and patients to read have a certain look to them.

Specialists rooms seem to have a mixture of car, boat, cooking and up market...

Betty is arriving soon....

I have been kind to perfect strangers for several hours today. Escorted one couple to their car protecting them with my umbrella from the heavy rain that Wellington is awash with. Let a motorist in the very busy Queensgate mall know that we were leaving and our car-park would be free for her to take. Offered to take several elderly women to their...

Misty morn

I woke up to a misty morn,
Tui cries coming through the dawn,
Trees dripping with dew,
Cat to weary to give a mew.

Threads of mist fingering the trees,
No chance today of any breeze.
The sparrows bedraggled,
Starlings looking harried.

Oh for a day when the bright stuff shines,
When out on the deck sipping a wine,
Warmth on my face, neck and...

Is it a junket? - part two

We are getting more junk mail up here on the hill than when we lived in the valley. It arrives on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. Lots of more interesting fliers, booklets and pamphlets to read. Nothing quite like settling down on a wet night to scan through what has arrived in the mailbox that evening.

Now down in the valley we got the low...

Veging Out

I am a vegetarian so I am particular about what I eat. Not fussy just particular especially when we are dining or lunching out. I am sure the restaurant/cafe staff go slightly batty with my questions about vegetable soup.

This goes back to a certain garden-centre cafe who advertised vegetable soup and fresh rolls on their lunch menu, so I...
