| We are 11 hours advanced on GMT not 12. I thought this site took DLS into account - we don't have but UK does. If neither did, (have DLS) then 12hrs is correct. Do we all have to go and change our time settings?

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced I have to be careful here to make sure we have correct settings otherwise everything goes to pot. The site (for guests) is running @ 10:21pm NZ local time Google displays NZ local time as 10:21pm NZST If you have anything different I would suggest you check the DST settings for your profile. Mine are off. |

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced Ok - Settings I had were GMT +12 Hrs = Wgtn, Akld etc, and the next setting was DST is always on. I thought that would counteract that UK is in DST and so we are only 11hrs ahead. I then set DST always off and the post times have come correct. That's all a bit hard to understand. You are left with GMT +12 hrs which is wrong if GMT is in DST OR is that a constant time reference and DST is never applied to it - just the UK inhabitants - then it makes sense. I am not a geographically educated person! Just mathematically... So what are ZULU times referenced to then - Longtitude = 0º? Same as GMT? Thanks anyway - everything is back to normal, phew - the world hasn't sped up after all. Always learning something. ![]()

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced Simple - GMT or UT is not "season-variable". We are 12 hrs ahead now, 13 hrs during our DST phase. Before our permanent 1/2 hr of (effectively) daylight saving was put on in WW2, we were only 11.5 hrs ahead of GMT, reflecting our average longitude. |

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced I figured that was what it must be, and so we are 12 hrs based on the base of GMT. I just get confused with settings sometimes...

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced My understanding is that it is as follows: DST begins at 2 a.m. NZST on the last Sunday in September each year, and ends at 3 a.m. NZDT on the first Sunday in April. In 2007 it changed and the period of DST became longer |

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced Quote:
at the moment my settings have DST on and has NZ time at GMT +13 - i was wondering if this was the right time for you in NZ, making the time 09:05, or if that meant that your time at present is only GMT+12, but the extra hour is added because we are in DST (BST - British Summer Time) at the moment, making it 08:05 in NZ?

| Re: Hours of posts 1 hr advanced What I do, because I "use" 3 time zones in my email correspondence etc and it drives me bonkers at times- is I have my windows clock set so it gives me three times: Local, Dublin, and EST. |
