Yellow Auckland hit by two earthquakes

Two shallow earthquakes shook Auckland this evening, and were felt around the region.

A tremor measuring 4.5 on the richter scale shook the region at 9pm.
It was centred 30km east of Orewa and was 15km deep.
Nearly 40 minutes prior to that a smaller earthquake measuring 3.7 in magnitude, also centred 30km east of Orewa but at a depth was six kilometres shook was reported. GNS said both quakes would have been felt in the Auckland region.

The quakes were the largest experienced in Auckland since 1970, when a quake of 4.7 was located in the Coromandel.

Yellow Third quake for Auckland

A third quake has shaken Auckland this evening. The event occured just after 11 pm local time and measured 3.8 on the Richter Scale. The epicentre was approximately 30km East of Orewa

Universal Time: February 21 2007 at 10:23
NZ Daylight Time: Wednesday, February 21 2007 at 11:23 pm
Latitude, Longitude: 36.55°S, 175.03°E
Focal Depth: 7 km
Richter magnitude: 3.8
