Re: Sydney's Weather

Mixture of sun/cloud yesterday & today. Remaining quite cold with fresh to strong icy W winds. Top of 16 degrees today after low of 6oC, with -1oC at Richmond & zero at Campbelltown/Badgerys Creek.

Looks like a week of cold, dry, sunny & windy W weather, in fact the forecast temps especially maximums are quite low for this time of the year. Average min is 9 and max 18.

AUGUST 1995: Was a very exceptional month with persistant W - NW winds. No rain fell making this the driest August on record (previous was 0.6mm in 1885) & the first rainless month since records began in 1858. There were 3 days of trace which can be attributed to dew.

On the 26th the maximum reached 31.3 degrees - hottest ever August day on record. The August mean max of 21.3 was 3.1oC above average & the highest on record, however this was due to the 16th - 31st recording average maximum of 25.1 degrees. All bar two days exceeded 20 degrees with 13 days exceeding 22 degrees. The first 15 days although dry & sunny was colder than normal averaging 17.2 degrees.

In spite of this sunshine (285 hrs) while well above normal was not a record breaker (1991 had 300 hrs). Daily total of 10+ hrs was measured on 17 days including a consecutive run from the 11th to 21st.

September 1995 on the other hand was the total opposite being much colder, wetter (226mm) and cloudier (198hrs) than usual.

August 1998: Was a very cloudy & wet month with below average maximum & above average minimum temperatures. The total of 482mm was the wettest August on record beating the previous record of 470mm set in 1986. Rain fell on 17 days. A strong East Coast Low from the 4th to 8th brought very heavy rain with flooding & severe gales from the south to the Sydney MA. To 9am on the 7th 104mm fell & to 9am on the 8th 136mm fell. A total of 310mm fell over this period. The max gust over this period was 96km/hr on the 7th.

The sunshine total of 161 hrs was the lowest on record (average 242 hrs), 112 hrs of this alone on 12 days with 39 hrs during the last 4 days. 6 days had no sun.

6 days had 20oC+ days, highest being 21 degrees.

Re: Sydney's Weather

Each night on TV, here, they give the forecast maximum for Sydney and lately it seemed it was nearer Auckland's temperatures. I think I saw 16 a couple of times.

Re: Sydney's Weather

Yesterday was mostly cloudy & cold with moderate to fresh W winds. Low of 8 and top of 15. Some light showers at times.

Today was mostly cloudy & cold with some sunshine. Low of 8 and top of 16 around midday, however a front came through mid arvo with thunder, lightning, some small hail and heavy rain, currently 10 degrees. Certainly very cold coming home from work on the bus & the icy W wind was strong at times from afternoon onwards.

Airport: 7/18

Rain to 9am today:
City: 1mm
Airport: nil
Rose Bay: 1.4mm

Since 9am:
City: 4.4mm
Airport: 2mm
Rose Bay: 3mm

You mean on NZ's weather segment? I'm very surprised that NZ would even bother giving out our temps! Would never happen here on the free to air channels (Oz showing NZ's temps) - thank god for the net & foxtel TV (They screen NZ news & weather)

Yeh, TVNZ's TV1 channel does. I will see if I can show you a screenshot of it or at worst, a link to play on demand. (Not pay, amazingly!)

Re: Sydney's Weather

Try not to worry about it too much...according to the "conspiracy theory" people, being ten years behind will help heaps when the aliens come and destroy our technology.LOL
