Re: Sydney's Weather

We are still trying to push rainfall to (close to) new highs - 69mm already this month to 9am yesterday. I hope today's sun can remove some dampness before the next lot moves in.

I get the feeling that there is going to be long dry spell coming up! Eventually. It is only a feeling: I was looking at the graph of New Plymouth's rainfall that you posted on another thread. I put a copy up on the wall and stand back and just look at it, without thinking much, almost as if a pattern will emerge, without any analysis!
So much for probability!

Re: Sydney's Weather

It doesn't quite belong here, but rainfan could do a similar analysis on Sydney rainfall to this: some "reverse" rainfall averages for Kelburn - each line is the average for the last N years (1,5,10,15,...40). It reminds me that although this will end up being a wet year like 2004 and particularly 2006, the 25-year range is below the longterm mean (about 1240mm) as are several of the other periods:

Start #years average

2007 1 1071.0
2003 5 1223.2
1998 10 1205.0
1993 15 1198.5
1988 20 1196.0
1983 25 1194.1
1978 30 1210.2
1973 35 1246.4
1968 40 1235.7

Re: Sydney's Weather

Hello.

Weather since Sunday has been mainly sunny with some cloudy periods; today - blue dome skies & sunshine, however in spite of this, it's not been warm at all - yesterday had 17oC and today just 16oC (even lower at airport with just 14 degrees) after a low of 8oC, winds light to moderate at times.

Another cold night tonight with 7oC expected & again just 17 for tomorrow; however days will be around 20oC from Thursday, warming to 23 on Saturday with warmer minimums to which I am looking very, very forward to. We have not yet reached 25oC, last time this happened was in April.

9 days into this month, mean max is averaging just 17oC. (average min is 11 & max 19)

Rain to 9am Sunday
City: 21mm
Airport: 14mm
Rose Bay: 22mm

Rain MTD:
City: 86mm
Airport: 63mm
Rose Bay: 74mm

Re: Sydney's Weather

What 20oC day?!? . Icy cold night once again with low of 7oC (1oC out west), daytime wasn't much warmer either with just 16oC (airport 6/15). Mostly sunny with morning cloudy periods, afternoon high cloud & fresh SE winds.

Another cold night tonight with low of 7oC but better temps onwards over next 5 days from tomorrow (21 degrees) with 24 for Fri-Sat with much warmer northerlies, bring it on

Rats, TV must lie about things! Thank God I don't trust the media very much!
You are getting nipped by the weather gods.
For me, here, it is rather steady, mild, humid, sun, showers, sun, showers, etc. Real Spring stuff! So far this month, daily maxima have ranged from 14- 18 degrees: "trading in a small range," as the stock market people say.
I still think you will be miles earlier into the sea to cool off than we will be!

Re: Sydney's Weather

Yes it was but can't say the same for temperatures! After another icy cold night (7 in city/6 at airport with zero out west!) - sunny & mostly clear today with some streaks of high cloud around midday. Temp. again cooler than normal in the city with 17oC probably due to the early arrival of seabreezes, airport was more warmer with 20oC, Olympic Park reached 21oC. It's quite mild atm 16 degrees & light to moderate winds.

Changeable weather on way with sunshine (after AM cloud) & max. of 23oC expected tomorrow after another cool night of 9 degrees; Saturday 26 degrees with afternoon storm; Sunday rain with storms & 21oC and Monday fine & 25oC . Am awaiting the warmer temps with bated breath

Re: Sydney's Weather

Well, well well it was such a superb & lovely Spring's day today - after a quite mild night (low of 16oC & 14 at airport) - sunny (few morning patches of cloud til around 11am) and warm - 30oC to be exact (32 at airport) with warm, dry NW winds , went to a lunch BBQ at neighbour's place; many happy & smiling faces for a change . NE winds kicked in during afternoon dropping temps by a few degrees but still a quite warm 24oC atm. First time I've wore shorts/tshirt in months! Quite a different contrast to last Saturday when teeming with rain, gale SE winds and just 13oC!

Min of 18oC tonight but cooler day tomorrow with 23oC due to persistant cloud bring some showers/storms. Warming up again on Monday (25oC) but am at work . Cooler from Tuesday to Friday before warming up to 28oC next Saturday
