Re: Sydney's Weather That's nicer weather. You expected warmer stuff, I think you alluded to the possibility a few posts back. Warmer stuff seems here to stay for us, but nothing like your temperatures!

Re: Sydney's Weather Yes, due to Spring westerlies revving up; they can transport heat from inland to the coast, however it's also a time of "extreme" weather as yesterday was a totally different story - mostly overcast with showers at times with some thunder during the afternoon but still warm with low of 17 and high of 23oC. Beaches were full in Saturday's 30-32oC heat but deserted yesterday. Today: Warmer & sunny with strong to gale dry northwesterlies, airport has recorded a max gust of 72km/hr so far; 27 in city & 28 at airport after mild night of 16oC. Heaters not used for a few days nowe; all windows open - really nice to be breathing in natural air :-) Warm run coming to end tonight as 11 expected overnight with 19oC for tomorrow with cold SW winds & sunshine.

Re: Sydney's Weather Well, at least you had some nice stuff! Though wouldn't the winds be really annoying?Clouded over for me, never went below 11 or above 15 the past 24 hrs. Almost no wind. Meanwhile, the South Island had NWly and several places reached 24 degrees.

Re: Sydney's Weather I'd take warm nor-westers any time, any day over cold SW winds Yes, the S & E of the South Island can thank us for sending the warm NW winds over, it was 21 in Invercargill yesterday and 20 on Sunday according to my brother. 9pm temp last night was 23oC, wind change swept thru after 10pm dropping temps to 12oC in city by sunrise (all windows were slammed shut by "wifey" when the cold wind decided to make a grand entrance Cold night with 9oC expected tonight & 18oC tomorrow

Re: Sydney's Weather The changeable temperatures will make you hardy, rainfan! Your NW winds moved a number of South Island places up to 25 degrees today.

Re: Sydney's Weather I hardened up a long time ago Hottest city Sept. day on record is 34.6oC on the 26th, 1965 with the minimum to the next day being 20oC. In 2000 during the Olympics here, it was almost equalled with 34.5oC on the 29th. Coldest Sept. day was way back in 1869 with 9.5oC.

Re: Sydney's Weather Been so busy with things including 2 visitors up from Melbourne (again!) As for the weather, they found it so hot here compared to Melbourne, heard there was hail in Melbourne on Friday afternoon. Friday was expected to be 28 degrees but got revised down to 25oC as the NE wind kicked in earlier than expected. Sunny with blue dome skies. A bit humid with the NE wind but generally very pleasant. After a warm night with low of 18deg, yesterday morning was certainly very nice & dry with warm northwesterlies strong at times, temps reached 32oC in the city & 33oC at airport before the NE wind kicked in quite late in the afternoon. Spent the morning at the beach which was nice but had to be in the city during the afternoon which was not so nice Currently sunny with few passing clouds & 19oC but much cooler than yesterday as the warm NW wind has changed to the SE.

Re: Sydney's Weather Weather over last few days changeable with a bit of everything (rain, cloud, wind, cold and warm temps). Stable from yesterday with plenty of sun but quite cool, 18 today after min of 10 (10/19 at airport) with moderate SE winds. A glorious weekend coming up with sunshine, light winds and 24-25oC - great time to be outdoors doing lots of walking & will be relaxing at the beach all weekend Not looking too good for rains at this stage for next 2 weeks which is a spoiler to the up coming fine & dry weather as NSW is now 71% drought-declared, up from August's 66% Sunshine is now at 195 hrs MTD. With sunny days expected into October - expect the monthly total to be around 250-260 hrs. Daily total of 10+ hrs have been exceeded on 15 days (including today which was clear and sunny). Might do a check to see if this month has the most 10+ hrs for any Sept. (records from 1955). Here is a link to Oz maps that show rainfalls - very excellent to use for reference. Doesnt run from Jan-Dec but rather April - March (1890-2004). Note the April 2002-March 2003 map - nearly all of NSW in "red" - that was a particularly horrendous time as I remember it with much distaste as being so dry with very little rains. There does seem to be more "reds" than blues. http://www.longpaddock.qld.gov.au/Pr...ll_HighRes.pdf Last edited by rainfan; 25-Sep-2008 at 19:55.
