Re: Sydney's Weather

What a great map! Thanks, rainfan. I don't think we have too much to complain about here, regarding drought!

Re: Sydney's Weather

Nice today . Quite cold at Bondi early, warmer in city. Mostly sunny with patches of high cloud during the afternoon. Warm in morning with little wind, bit cooler in arvo with NE breezes. City 11/22, Airport 11/25. Highest max of 28oC at Penrith & lowest min of 3oC at Richmond. Classic Spring day, certainly can feel the positive vibes in the air. DLS starts here next Sunday 5th (Long weekend as its a Labour Day public holiday on Monday ).

Be a nice one tomorrow with 25oC/light winds apart from seabreezes -perfect for being outdoors all day long , not being stuck in an office or car . Sunday whilst expected to be 29oC is expected to bring a late southerly change (there's a word not heard for quite a while), Sept. onwards often brings S changes - some mild, some strong/squally.

Enjoy! . Does make quite interesting & colourful reading.

I would have thought Eastern areas of both Islands as well as Central Otago droughts would have been quite comparable to ours but probably occurs less frequently whereas ours occur too frequently (Coastal Sydney quite often is a different matter).

Re: Sydney's Weather

Such a lovely day today , spent all day at beach & did lots of walking - shaking off those extra kilos gained over Winter and getting brown now!

Sunny and warm with light winds turning moderate NE as day progressed. City 14/23 & Airport 14/25. Highest max: 30oC at Penrith & lowest min: 6 deg at Campbelltown.

Gonna be very warm tomorrow, 33 degrees with strong, warm and dry northwesterlies before a late southerly change. Will be at the beach again tomorrow . If the 33oC eventuates then will be the 4th instance for Sept. to exceed 30oC.

Re: Sydney's Weather

Quite bizarre for September after 30oC was only exceeded once in the first 3 months of the year in Sydney!

33 is nudging quite close to the September record high (34.6oC at Ob Hill according to BOM).

Re: Sydney's Weather

its like the canterbury NWer david, which does not occur in jan/feb/mar in sydney, so , its not really that bizzare...i.e sep to nov (and early dec) is the time when sydney gets these hot dry nw winds

Yes windy but the mean number of days over 30oC in the first 3 months of the year is 6.9 (BoM statistics), and for September 0.3days (i.e 1 day over 30oC in September every 3 years or so).

Gentlemen, safe for me to say that New Plymouth doesn't have to worry about days exceeding 30 degrees bar Jan or February and that is very rare!

Re: Sydney's Weather

A strong southerly change in Sydney has just caused the temperature at the airport to drop from 34oC to 24oC in a 4 minute period!!

Has fallen from 34 to 19 in half an hour. I imagine the crowded beaches will be emptying quickly...

Re: Sydney's Weather

After a very warm night today started off overcast then cleared after 10am, got quite hot in the sun & strong to gale warm, dry northwesterlies then around 2pm whilst having lunch with friends at a cafe opposite the beach looked up and saw thin cirrus clouds sweeping in then all of a sudden squally strong to gale blasts from the south made an grand entrance , with scud clouds, dust & sand blown everywhere, got cold very quickly, many people cursing & "swearing" at the change, beach & main street were packed with people, after the southerly blew in, many people (literally hundreds and hundreds) fled the beach! Bondi Beach is quite exposed to the south so you get my drift! Traffic was absolutely terrible as cars clogged roads & impossible to get the bus because it's Sunday so public transport isn't the best. We all walked home quite quickly . Cold now, 17oC with moderate to fresh S-SE winds. Airport recorded a max gust of 76km/hr during the change. Both sites recorded lows last night of 20 degrees.

Classic Sept. weather - changeable which is pretty normal.

Dramatic fall in temps: Airport (high was 34.4deg at 1.46pm) 2:07pm - 34.3oC, 2:11 - 24.4oC, 2:13 - 22.6 & 2:30 - 19degrees. Currently 17oC.

Ob Hill: 32.9oC (high) at 2.01pm, 27.8 at 2.24, 22.6 at 2.39 & 19.4 at 4pm. Current;y 17oC.

Cool start to the week expected but warming up on Thursday with 29oC expected (will it exceed 30oC again?) but nothing hot and sunny for the long weekend but of course we'll see as the weekend gets closer.
