Re: Sydney's Weather

After overnight showers, today turned out very overcast, dull and dark, many city bulidings/private dwellings had thier lights on all day long. Dry morning with rain setting in during the afternoon, easing about an hour ago. Quite humid this morning with light winds all morning becoming gusty N-NE winds during the afternoon with some strong gusts on the coast. Mild night, cool day. 3rd day of no sun. Loving this weather heaps

Very little range in temps. Ob Hill after a minimum of 15.2oC had temps at 16oC all day then climbing upwards from 5.30pm to a maximum of 19.1oC at 8.16pm tonight which is quite unusual.

City: 15oC/19oC
Airport: 15oC/19oC
Highest max: 19oC at airport & city
Lowest max: 15oC at several W/SW suburbs
Lowest min: 13oC at several W/NW/SW suburbs

Rain to 9am:
City: 4mm
Airport: 13mm
Rose Bay: 6.2mm
Heaviest fall: 25mm at Pymble (N)

Since 9am:
City: 5.2mm
Airport: 7.4mm
Rose Bay: 9mm
Heaviest fall: 28mm at Ingleburn & RNP in the south

Sounds like the tropics without the heat! How long is this due to go on for?

Re: Sydney's Weather

Ended around mid morning ATO2.

Am on holidays for 2 weeks starting tomorrow , perfect timing as the low moves S & deepening with heavy rain & gales. Got relatives staying with me from Brisbane for a week, arrived this afternoon - needless to say they're not very impressed with the bad weather , I said we need it to replenish dams, farmland etc after the driest May on record.

Had few light showers overnight with light winds. Walked to the bus stop with jacket & jumper on at 5am, it was quite humid - had to take jacket off on the bus. After 10am wind started to increase becoming stronger & colder by midday with light then moderate then heavy showers turning to rain with heavy falls at times. Local flooding around the city. Got home (Bondi) after 5pm - winds very strong and squally at times with driving rain & local flooding around the park behind our house like a lake with water pouring over the edges like a waterfall.

Currently heavy rain with gale-force cold SE winds. Rain has gotten more heavier over last few hours with wind becoming more stronger.

Not much variation in max. temps for the second day running.

Ob Hill had maximums between 15-18oC all day long.

Rain to 9am:
City: 9.2mm
Airport: 8.8mm
Rose Bay: 12mm
Heaviest fall: 48mm at Ingleburn (S)

Since 9am:
City: 32mm
Airport: 21mm
Rose Bay: 26mm
Heavist fall: 43mm at Horsley Park (W)

I think I shall wait for a bit before I visit Sydney again! However, water is the ultimate resource and you will be the better for having enough of it!

Re: Sydney's Weather

Yes. More rain means more water for our dams

Rain has now eased to light showers here, still very windy and quite cold as the wind is blowing from the south - gusts have reached 75 - 85 km/hr with 93km/hr at Wattamolla. Plenty of rubbish/tree debris strewn around. Some big branches on my street have been snapped off landing on some cars with minor damage. Waves are very big at Bondi Beach with heights reaching 6 metres - the highest in 40 years.

Rain to 9am:
City: 46mm
Airport: 30mm
Rose Bay: 47mm
Heaviest falls were in the northern suburbs with 85mm at North Turramurra and 79mm at Hornsby.

Re: Sydney's Weather

MTD rain:
City: 81mm
Airport: 74mm
Rose Bay: 88mm

BOM summary for May 2008

Sydney in May 2008

Some of the information is incorrect.

Rose Bay's total is stated as 3.8mm - it's actually 10.2mm.

This May is stated as being the 4th sunniest at the airport site - its actually 3rd sunniest. May 2007 had 248.7 hrs followed by 248 hrs in 1982/2004 then 2008 with 235.5 hrs

Ob Hill's (1931-1992) sunniest May was in 1957 & 1973 with 244 hrs.

May 1957 & 1982 were very dry months with higher than normal sunshine due to prevailing W winds.

Today's the 5th day of no sun. Just had a heavy shower sweep past lasting 10 minutes. Very nice day for staying indoors and doing things nevermind having relatives here

Re: Sydney's Weather

Thanks mate. I had a read of the BOM summary and cruised into some of the links that they thoughtfully provide.Seems easier to get information about your country sometimes than it is to get stats about NZ.

Re: Sydney's Weather

That's because Met. is still after making plenty of money. NIWA at least was forced by the gov't to allow free access to Cliflo data - there's a lot of information there. And of course BOM was never divided in two by Rogernomes!

Re: Sydney's Weather

Exactly. I came across a similiar situation when wanting New Zealand census data a year or two back.I would have to pay. Then I discovered the information was available on an Australian website and it was free!

Re: Sydney's Weather

UK weather office is worse - I have several times emailed them asking for data, never got any replies. Everything costs serious money. All I wanted was some 30-year sunshine means for places not on the list available from their website.
