8am, New Plymouth: Much nicer weather. The Sun has come back and the SEly abated. Ten degrees, a little cloud, heavy snowfall on mountain, similiar to what I posted a few days back.

Our skies are very clear, should be a good day tomorrow, around 16 or 17, much like today.However, if the northerly starts up, then I expect a bit of cloud to come in.

How low?

Fine in Chch apart from some scattered cloud, and a northeasterly this afternoon. Heavy frost this morning - unusually severe for so early, but then again so was the cold southerly and Port Hills snow a few days earlier.

lovely day here, wall-to-wall sunshine from sunrise, very warm in the sun, reaching 22/23C, not humid and a pleasant cool easterly breeze (from the North Sea). A few tiny wispy clouds developed this afternoon but a lovely sunset to look forward too...

The snow was around 1400 metres on the northern slopes of the mountain....there would be stuff on the ground below the tree line, I guess. The Ranges showed no snow.
Some early snowboarders were up on the Manganui skifield, on the Stratford side. There was 30cm there but it won't last long. The field is between 1260 and 1680 metres. So no early skifield opening!
