windy will become famous soon enough
Re: High Wind speeds 22 June 2008

stongest winds out of this system for here will be on tuesday when the SW arrives....at the moment the marine forecast is for 45 kts
This morning, the hauraki gulf stations are reporting winds up to 45 kts
I have a station on a very exposed hill top, and that has reached 43 knots overnight:
Manukau Heads
and I have reached 33 knots here (all from the NE)

but so far its been a non event for windspeed from the NE...the current marine forecast of gusts to 45 knots for the inner harbours is not being reached (at sea level)

but the wind could increase as the trough keeps on deepening

update: Tiritiri is gusting to 50 kts (90kmh or so) now
(but thats a very exposed island, LOL, where they get 85kts (in easterly winds)

Re: High Wind speeds 22 June 2008

Aaaaghhh! Longer than 10mins - can we change that Grant?
Just a simple thing but I couldn't edit it....

Ok - I get another post count...

Multiply km/h by 0.54 to get knots.

So 53.6km/hr = 28.9kts

(Or multiply Knots by 1.82 to get kms/hr - good enough for 1 dec place)
