Snow Snow reports June 2008

A thread that will probably be of more interest to the southern stations above 400 meters to start off with, but please post any reports of snow for June 2008.

Try to include depth, rate type and accumulation if possible.

OK- I am home for lunch: Mt Taranaki is partially clear. I can make out snow to around 3,000 feet on bare areas. Will update.

Re: Snow reports June 2008

Heavy hail folowed by rain and sleet in Chch (Riccarton) but no snow. Couldn't see any on Port Hills, but heard of a coating on outer Banks Peninsula.

Re: Snow reports June 2008

Alps (what little I could see of them throught the trees) were under a proper winter mantle again today.
Tokww, Any snow near Tokoroa overnight? I know there are high hills to the south, nearer Mangakino.

The millsite is at 385m and there are close hills to the SE too along the main highway - Cashmores and they reach through our forest to Whakamaru - they must be at 650m but the tops are covered in cloud - still just above our millsite by a cloud cover of 500ft or so. So no real visiblity. It doesn't sem cold enough though - I rode in on the bike and at a min of 6.7ºC was quite comfortable. We did have some sleet showers at 11pm last night so it might have been snowing for half an hour then at higher elevation. Winds from the WNW are never overly cold, when they swing S-SW that's when it will get colder. If I see anything with a southerly (clearer skies usually) I will take some shots.
