More rain and stuff, but the hail seems to have gone. No thunder to report but then I was asleep if any happened!
OK: New Plymouth Airport: 11 degrees, 48 km/h W 6am
New Plymouth (Regional Council site): 6 km/h gusting to 24 km/h NW 7.30am
Cape Egmont: 38 km/h gusting to 53 km/h SW 730 am

The new Radar doesn't help me much really- q.v. a post I made elsewhere!

After yesterday eveing's unforecast rain and southerly change (not windy though), fine this morning with only scattered cloud, though after yesterday's experience I'm not ssuming it will last long. Southerly rain expected late afternoon.

A steady mix: some hail, sun and has become rather cool. Light winds only.
Sunshine MTD is slightly below average.

Cold wet day in Chch (about 5-6C), with a fresh southerly. Rain intermittant this morning (though wasn't forecast to start that early) but persistent in afternoon.

Re: Weather reports, June 28th, 2008

A max of 8.1ºC here in Tokoroa with still more rain. 8th consecutive day of rain, 162mm for the month so far, average temp of 8.4 and dropping... I do need a solar sensor for daylight hours calc... the last 3 days have been around 20mm/day and today has been 9mm since 9am.

Since 7am, the wind has largely been from the North but that may be because of the valley terrain we are at the head of at southern end. Another cold and miserable day if you get wet outside... as I did refereeing soccer in Hamilton today. We had a squall of heavy sleet for 5 mins just before half time around 11am - a distinct cold front passing through.

Baro high of 999 at 10am dropping to 995 at 3pm. 995.9 right now. Winds have dropped. Max gust last hr was 18km/hr (now).

Re: Weather reports, June 28th, 2008

Rain continuing in Chch with fresh to strong southerlies. 21mm at Hillmorton Station so far.
Was the sleet reported in Hamilton partially melted hail or melting snow/rain mix? Snow has been forecast above 800m today in central North Island, but some obs I've been seeing suggest possible falls to lower levels, eg 3C at 6pm in Taupo and Takapau Plains, the latter (about 200-300m asl) with recent precipitation. Rotorua was only 6C at noon. Still Hamilton seems much too low for melting snow type sleet in this event.

Re: Weather reports, June 28th, 2008

Tich - during the squall that passed through briefly, it was heavy rain basically with some sleet thrown in, it hadn't developed any hail and I don't think it was cold enough for snow and being that wet - still from the west at the time.

I'm still new at this weather lark but learning all the time once you are exposed to different conditions and can discuss it - so thanks! If it is clear tomorrow I will drive and see where the snow line is locally here in Tokoroa - 380m at the millsite, 334m here. Good chance for a photo shot too for the competition. A high here of 8.1 and now down to 4.7ºC.

Re: Weather reports, June 28th, 2008

It's been quite a humid day here, currently 79% at 10:43pm.
Rather cloudy to start with, this thinned and gradually cleared by 3pm with some very warm sunshine. You can burn quite easily in it though (as my neck has found out) with a UV Level of ~7. Temp in car registered 25C, not sure if this is a little too high above the predicted 23C. Expecting 27C by Tuesday then some big 'french export' storms Tuesday night
