Post Weather reports for July 22nd, 2008

8am reports:
New Plymouth: (city)NE 17 km/hr, 13 degrees. Rain on and off. No sign of forecast NW.
Cape Egmont: N 44 km/hr , gusting to 59 km/hr

Airport was 32 km/hr, NE, at 6am.

CHCH rain radar certianly shows very heavy rain over the west coast of the SI at the moment
but the front is moving quickly, so it will push through soon

Overnight Low last night: 4.4 @ 22:30
Current temp: 11.5 @ 09:20
Dew Point: 8.2 @ 09:20
Humidity: 94%, damp againt - NE with light rain - fully overcast
Rainfall 21st: 1.5mm - 0.5mm since 9am
Wind gust: 11.7kts (09:11am)
Max 1m Ave: 11.2kts (09:15), current 10min ave = 7.7kts.
Wind Dircn: NN-Easterly
Sky Condition - Overcast, visibility: 500m with rain, or 1km.
Baro: 1011.5; -2.7hPa /6hrs, steadily falling.

As the Low approaches, the NNE will turn to the NW. Still mild.

Mostly overcast with one fleeting bright period, only a few spots so far. Very dark-looking at present.

So far winds are pretty ordinary and have dropped as the Sun has come out. 28 km/hr at Cape Egmont, 12 km/hr in town. Airport reported 41km/hr at noon.

Breezy here in Avalon in the Hutt Valley, cloudy with bits of the blue stuff.

Just waiting for the strong winds and heavy rain to arrive.

There was some heavy rain here about 10.30 am

Turned into a really nice sunny afternoon eventually. Skies nice and clear mostly from 4pm on.

Same here in Wanganui, nice afternoon after a few showers.
So far, 2.7mm, wind average 15km. Max average 44km

Raining steadily from 9am onwards, just lightly but almost continuously. Almost 3/4" now, winds have been up and down a bit, max gust of 25kts at 17:30 and current 10min ave of 12kts. Steady at NNW, Baro still dropping at 1004hPa.

very nice thunderstorm here last night over the auckland area
and then more at 1am and 2am with squally showers
