| new weather station site position have purchased a WH1081PC usb profesional which is the La Crosse brand i think. regards to site position of sensors, am unsure whether to position on roof or stand alone pole. My concern re roof siteing is heat deflection bouncing up from the roof and not to mention heat leakage passing through roof insulation affecting the temp readings? stand alone pole seems more conducive to more accurate readings. what say you? further to my query, should i use stand alone pole at what height? i only have a small rear yard approx 350 m2 how ever that is with garage a nd raised garden . Any advice or suggestions? |

| It really needs grass or garden beneath the main unit for correct temperature and humidity readings. It is supposed to be elevated at 5ft or 1525 above the grass, to allow a breeze to carry typical local air over the unit and at least 3m from concrete pads or side of a building for the very reasons you talk of. Can you get another pole and mount the windvane/windcups up higher? 6m above a boundry fence would be ok. I hope this helps - the unit is not a La Crosse and has some improved design over the basic WS2300 series. I think ScientificSales market them under their own name. Not sure if Weather Display talks to them or not? Brian?

| Re: new weather station site position The recommended height above roof apex is 5 meters (usually for wind instruments) to avoid eddies. Generally temperature readings should be above grass at 1.25 meters. If you are not able to split the instruments up, you will need to decide which is more important - wind or temp. Maintenance and batteries changes (if applicable) will also need to be considered. Last edited by Grant; 24-Jun-2008 at 18:48. Reason: oops, posted same time as Graeme |

| Re: new weather station site position You will normally display the relative pressure (which is an adjustment taking into account your height above sea level). However, your stats would show both absolute and relative as with Tamworth Weather Station - Live Lightning Data Maps |

| Re: new weather station site position bascily set the baro offset in WD so that your stations baro reading matches others in the area (and e.g auckland airport ), but note you need to compare at the same time...
