Camera Kent Sunset - UK

A few shots of some sunsets last week I've made the images small to make download times quicker, click on the image thumbnail for a larger version

Starting with Fri 25 July 2008:

Next Mon 28 July 2008, showing a huge anvil to my east lit up by the setting sun to my west:

Tues 29 July 2008:

Thu 31 July 2008, on what was a very stormy looking evening but nothing happened Electric blue clouds though, looked ideal for storms as depicted in photo 2 and 4 Suddenly at 9pm, the sun shone through lighting everything up in bright orange - this disappeared 10mins later and one hour later a loud rumble of thunder was heard. It seems that the cloud broke up, which allowed the sun to come through, but also allowing the cloud tops to rise a little more, and then producing some thunder and lightning:

I like those, particularly the ante penultimate one- quite dramatic contrast against the outline of the building.

Thumbs up Re: Kent Sunset - UK

Yes, taking photos of a quickly changing sky really needs devotion and patience - well done! That bright angry sky, 3rd to last is one that would not stay like that for long! Nice capture. Yes you need another "storey" on the house to get up that little bit higher!

I was trying to take more of the bright sunrise through the trees, as the first pic had a wet smudge oin the lens - quite obvious really, and missed about 4 chances of repeating the shot... I took 4 more but not as good as the first, despite a cleaner lens!

Re: Kent Sunset - UK

One thing I notice is how hard it can be sometimes to get the shot that you see- in that by the time you look at the sky, grab your camera, frame the shot- the scene has changed and that stupendous image you saw isn't on the camera! There is a case for setting up your video camera and just letting the damn thing run and then try to extract that ultimate picture.

Also you take a photo of something spectacular and it doesn't look so good when you download the photo, for example very black, stormy skies seem like just plain old grey clouds when you download it
Thanks for your comments everyone

Re: Kent Sunset - UK

Having an anitglare filter on the lens actually uses a polaroid filter I think and perhaps special lens coatings and that enhances the cloud definition as there is less glare and more shade, and more contrast within the cloud definition.
